TCF is a US philanthropic organization created by the Christensen family and based in California. TCF provides grants of $50,000 to $100,000 over one or two years to support biocultural diversity. Grants are primarily offered for projects focused on 5 geographic regions:
- Southwest USA and Northwest Mexico
- Central Asia and Turkey
- the African Rift Valley
- Northern Australia
- Melanesia
Some international projects are also supported.
Deadlines: applications are due on August 31, and some additional applications may be accepted for a March 31 deadline.
Examples of funded language revitalization projects include:
- Madjulla Inc. (2008) Funded to continue support for the ''Nyikina language revitalization project'' in the Kimberley of NW Australia through production of the Birr Nganka Digital Dictionary.
- GURAPAU Group (2007) Funded to support partnerships between ''Elmolo fisher people of Lake Turkana in Northern Kenya'' and local researchers to document and revitalize their language, ethno-ecological knowledge, cultural heritage and sacred sites and restore identity and lost pride as a basis for community development.
