Certificate in Aboriginal Language Revitalization, Canada
The Certificate Program in Aboriginal Language Revitalization at the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, is designed for people who are strongly committed to the maintenance and revitalization of Aboriginal languages in communities throughout British Columbia, across Canada and beyond.
The program aims to develop understanding of the complex context and characteristics of language loss, maintenance, and recovery while also providing participants with practical strategies that strengthen the ability to work within Aboriginal communities to preserve and revitalize threatened languages.
This program is designed to honour traditional knowledge and practices, to recognize and accommodate the realities and needs of diverse communities, and to provide a foundation for both language revitalization activities and for further study in linguistics, education, and/or cultural resource management.
University of Victoria is offering intensive courses in a Summer Institute from August 3-21 2010.
