Shamini Joseph is a Consultant Research Officer with RNLD. In this role, Shamini is working on the digitisation of Gavan Breen’s extensive collections of field notes for 49 Aboriginal languages from across western Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory. This project involves scanning and digitising written materials and preparing metadata.
Shamini graduated from the University of Western Australia in 2012, majoring in Linguistics and Women's Studies. During her time at university, she completed a comprehensive unit run by Dr. John Henderson on Australian Aboriginal Languages, which focussed primarily on Arrernte. Since that time, Shamini has been greatly interested in ongoing efforts to revive endangered cultures and languages across Australia. Her passions include phonetics, historical linguistics and urban hip hop.
